One of the best ways to explore the country is by road. Begin in Auckland, the largest city, and take a look at some Maori culture, then visit Huapai and sample some great wines. Visit Waikato which is great for hiking and look at the spot where Frodo was stabbed by the Black Rider. Rotorua for its hot spring geysers, Hamilton for great food, Kaimanawa forest park to see the rare Blue Duck and end at Wellington, the national capital and visit the Waterfront.

It is a 200 kilometre route from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin. Though the distance is short, is a feast for the eyes. It showcases a lot of Australia’s natural diversity. Moving from Cape Naturaliste, you will find wildflowers of unseen colours in bloom, and of course, kangaroos. About midway, you will come across the Margaret River which is home to some of the most famous Australian vineyards. South of the river is the Leeuwin-Naturaliste national park which is a top spot for fishing and surfing.

This is a rather long road trip but it is worth every bit of fuel spent. Start from Bergen and take the route via Alvik in order to end at Oslo. Bergen has a functional cable car system and riding funiculars up the surrounding mountains. The 350 miles from Bergen to the outskirts of Oslo is full of greenery. You could also take the coastal road via Kristiansand and Stavanger swap the mountains for oceans and even ride a car ferry!  Look out for a large number of Elk; you will be able to see the dents made by them everywhere. Wooden buildings, lighthouses and sea cottages will sooth your senses aplenty!

You can set off in the middle of Ireland at Tipperary and make a first stop at Lough Derg, in the North of the country. If the weather is too bad, you could take a look at the scenery from the window. Viewing points are marked everywhere. Take the M7 highway. There are numerous castles and a boarding school that looks much like Hogwarts. Visit Cahir Castle, Rock of Cashel and the Hollycross Abbey. End at Dublin for some spectacular food!

Take a dip in the pristine waters, eat some of the creamiest ice creams, visit the Desierto de Tabernas to see the background of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and indulge in tapas!

The Leh-Manali highway is open from June to October every year, when the snow has melted. Once you are at higher altitudes, it will take a few days to get acclimatized. Rohtang pass is a beautiful place to play in the snow and eat piping hot Maggi. Leh offers a number of adventure activities such as trekking, rafting and climbing. There are also Buddhist monasteries and temples for the religiously inclined. Visit the Khardungla pass which is the highest motorable road in the world. The Pangong Tso Lake, as seen in 3 Idiots, is also located at Leh.

There are whales, snow-capped mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, ponds full of trout and mystifying oceans. Start at Anchorage, go via the Kenai Peninsula and end at the harbour town of Seward. The Seward Highway is known as the All American Highway, which is quite a trip in itself. On your way, visit the Chugach State Park, Mount Alyeska, Portage Valley, Turnagain pass –a major hot spot for skiing-, Canyon Creek and Moose Pass. These are some sights which you will never be able to gauge anywhere else in the world.

It is 2,451 miles long. On this single trip, you can visit a number of states including Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Not much needs to be said about this famous route. It has a song based on it as well as a TV show! It is the ultimate road trip.
