Water is no more a resource that can be taken for granted. Every drop of water should be conserved and spent with great care, because we are well aware of the notion as ‘many drops make an ocean’!

Here are 10 tips to save water in your own home while doing some of your chores and other domestic activities in the most efficient way.

The biggest and the most common blunder that almost everyone makes is leaving the taps open especially in full flow even when its not needed. This happens almost everyday and contributes to a huge extent in wastage of water. Close the taps when you are brushing your teeth or washing your hair or hands while you rinse or lather. The water need not be wasted unnecessarily when you are busy doing some other task. Make sure you close the taps tightly after use.

Swimming pool is another source where water gets wasted immensely. Cover your pool to reduce evaporation and do not over use chemicals in the water. Do not fill your pools till the brim or overfill them in order to prevent any sort of wastage. Try joining a community swimming pool instead of owning a private one. It reduces the usage of water to a great extent. Avoid sprays and waterfalls in the pool as water gets evaporated more easily in such systems. Make sure your fountains and swimming pools are equipped with water re-circulation pumps. In case of an automatic refill system, check for leakages periodically.

In case of toilets; buy dual flush which makes use of half flush and full flush for fluid and solid wastes respectively. Fix water saving aerators for the faucets and do not flush the tissues every time. Instead throw them in the trash bin.

Use your washing machine with full load or use the necessary amount of water depending on the number of clothes to be washed. Also, use the dish washers too only when filled with full load as they are more water efficient in such cases.
