With the advent of electronic music disc jockeying is fast becoming a popular and wanted profession not only in India but all over the world. People look for a DJ even in their small gatherings or functions. Huge crowds are attracted by famous DJ’s for their performances and concerts. I myself attended the Swedish House Mafia concert in the Sunburn Arena in Goa and I can very well conclude that it was a once in a lifetime of a night. With the growing popularity of profession comes competition and with competition rankings come into play. Here are the top ten DJ’s from all over the globe of 2013.
10) Dash Berlin (Jeffrey Sutorius)
He is 10th on my list but certainly not the least. As it is very difficult to rank Dj’s from all over the globe as the taste of music varies highly from place to place. Dash Berlin is a dutch trance music project created in 2007. Their front man or DJ as we know him is Jeffrey Sutorius aka Dash Berlin. A self-confessed fan of electronic dance music Jeffrey worked in a record store in his childhood days and thus became a collector of vinyl trance music. Inspired by pioneering figures of that time such as Sven Vath he started to mix his own song collection. Nominated for the IDM awards and won EDM awards a couple of times.
9) Swedish House Mafia
My personal favorite but due to their recent breaking of the group I’ll place them 9th.The group was formed in 2008 and recently had announced that their performance at the Ultra Music Festival would be their last. The supergroup as it is called consists of all individually very successful Dj’s Axell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. All three of them have individually made it to the top 25 dj’s list sometime in their career.Hence Swedish House Mafia was a supergroup. They have been called “the faces of mainstream progressive house music.
8) Steve Aoki (Dave Smith)
Steven Hiroyuki Aoki or Dave Smith is an american electro house musician. He is the founder of DimMak records and also has been nominated for Grammy. He is widely known for his acrobatic crowd surfing stunts, throwing cake at fans, spraying champagne bottles, and riding rafts on the dance floor. He has remixed many artists and bands, including Jackson 5, Drake, Kanye West, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, SPA, Kid Cudi etc. He has recently formed a team with Blake Miller of a LA-based band “Moving Units” to produce remixes.
7) Afrojack (Nick Van De Wall)
Nick Van De Wall is his real name but we know him by the stage name of Afrojack. He is a dutch music producer and a Dj as well. Afrojack owns a label “Wall Recordings” which has many dutch Dj’s such as R3hab, Sidney and Mayaadh signed onto it.His song “Take Over Control” topped the charts in over 10 countries. His popularity all over the globe and the demand which his songs create gives him the eighth spot on my list.
6) Nicky Romero
Another Dutch Dj Nicky Romero is known for his eye candy and cute looks.A music composer also along with being a Dj. His fans on the whole are known as ‘The Protocol Family’. In the October of 2012, Romero received the DJ magazine’s “Highest New Entry Award” on the top hundred list with a spot of 17.It is one of the highest new entries ever to be featured on this list. Romero achieved popularity with “Toulouse” which stayed on the top of charts for a very significant period of time and smashing many records. Recognizing and realising what a talent he is MTV named him the “Electronic Dance Music Artist To Watch” in 2012. Nicky’s popularity has risen in recent years and he has been able to attain a joint position with David Guetta and other top Dj’s in many parties and concerts. During his initial days, he was mentored and helped by many greats such as Tiesto and David Guetta.
Another Dutch musician, record maker and producer of electronic dance music.Dutchmen seem to have picked up this profession quite seriously than people from other parts of the world.Longest serving and most successful Dj to feature in top ten list.He has used many aliases in the past but is best known as Dj Tiesto. In his latest productions and records he has switched to just “Tiesto”. In 2001 he released his first solo album and record “In My Memory” which gave him new heights in his career and helped him become established as a Dj. He was ranked no 1 on three consecutive occasions by the Dj Magazine from 2002-2004. He co-founded the Black Hole Recordings in 1997 with Arny Bink.
4) David Guetta
Popular ? Hell Yeah ! He is damn popular and and one of the most humble Dj to feature in this list.He goes by the name Pierre David Guetta officially and is a French music composer and electronic dance music producer. He started with Dj performances in night clubs in the 1980’s and 1990’s.He is World Renowned as a Dj an his popularity is far more high even if he isn’t the best Dj in the world according to my list. Guetta co-founded Gum Productions and released his first album “Just a little more Love” in 2002. Later, he released Guetta (2004) and Pop Life (2007).David Guetta has sold over 15 million albums and records worldwide and in 2011 was voted as the no 1 Dj in the Dj Magazine’s annual top 100 Dj list.
3)Armin Van Buuren
Here begins the top three of the world in 2013. Armin is another Dutch talent. He began working as a Dj in a local club named Next, playing multiple sets in a week and each set mostly lasted for about six to eight hours. Buuren is known mostly for playing progressive trance and uplifting trance. He has won a number of awards and recognitions including the no 1 spot in Dj Magazine’s Top 100 list a record five times. He in 2011 was appointed as the Officer of Order of Orange Nassau for his services to music.
2) Avicii (Tim Beling)
Tim Beling is his real name a rather simple name to his stage name of Avicii. He is a swedish Dj , mixer and record producer. He has been nominated twice for The Grammys, once for his work on “Sunshine” with David Guetta in 2012 and another in 2013 for his song “Levels”.
No doubt he is currently the best in the world. There has been a fierce competition from other Dj’s but this lad has been outstanding with his mixing and performances all over the globe in the duration of 2013. Another Dutchman, famous for progressive and electro house music which is mostly out of the box. In 2012 alongside many renowned artists such as Alesso, Nicky Romero, Deniz Koyu and R3hab, Hardwell was named as the “Electronic Dance Music Artist to watch out for” by MTV. He started his music career by playing piano when four and by the age of fourteen had begun Djing in many reputable clubs across Netherlands. Hardwell had Tiesto as his biggest inspiration and mentor throughout his upbringing and at the initial stages of his career.I mean Tiesto is his idol, but he has actually been able to get better of him this year surely must be a proud moment for him.
These people can for sure even make the non dancers do some fancy dance moves.Their songs and tracks can surely make you forget all the worries and would want to just dance to the beats.
