No TV serial is ever complete without a love story. Each romantic connection is different and watching two characters come together and make it work through all adversity has a charm of its own. There are a lot of serials and a lot of love stories but there are those that strike a chord with the audiences and though they may not have the best love story in the world with a fairy tale life, they make you want to root for them come what may. 10. Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Danes
One of the most complicated love stories, this couple breaks up and gets together numerous times before they realize they are meant for one another. Luke is a diner owner at stars hollow where the show, The Gilmore girls is based and Lorelai Gilmore plays a strong independent woman who ran away from a wealthy family after a pregnancy at 16 to live and work at stars hollow as a single mom. Despite several love connections that they both have during the seasons, the connection between the two is but obvious as all audiences can feel and finally after 5 seasons of suspense, they finally accept their feelings for each other to come together. They go through a break up due to Luke’s discovery of a daughter from a previous relationship which causes Lorelei to go back to the father of her child, but even after a strained relationship followed by some reconciliation, they eventually do get together.

The most recent couple to become a favorite, Marshall and Lily in How I met Your Mother, make for an extraordinary couple. Lily is a preschool teacher with a strong sense of doing things the right way, and Marshall is a large hearted innocent Minnesota guy with a love for planning parties and an irrational belief in all things supernatural. Since the first year in college, this couple has been steadfastly together, except for a summer of separation. The closeness between the two is almost superhuman with the capacity to read each other’s expressions and complete each other’s sentences! A crime drama serial which has been in the top ten best serials since its inception 5 seasons ago, Castle and Beckett’s will they won’t they status is almost as suspenseful as the identity of the killer of every crime. Recently voted as the best TV couple by TV guide readers, their sizzling chemistry lights up the screen .Richard Castle is a famous, playboy author with two failed marriages and a lovely daughter. A doting father with a heart of gold, he is immature, with the imagination of a little boy. He falls for Kate Beckett, a headstrong, independent and great detective whose only life is work, and using his connections with the city mayor, attains permission to follow Beckett, who becomes his muse for his new book. They have a love hate relationship with neither admitting their true feelings for each other, hidden under a veil of sarcasm. They think alike and work well together, and in spite of all their co-workers telling them its more than just friendship, their personal lives get entangled with their work lives, till life threatening situations and coming to terms with their past finally make them realize they belong together in the end of the fourth season (much to the delight of the viewers).
6. Derek and Meredith
One of the longest running couples, this passionate love story that eventually had its fair share of drama in the first two seasons finally reached a stable point portraying the trials and tribulations of a couple deeply in love, while managing their work and personal lives in the face of harsh reality. Meredith starts out as a medical intern where Derek works as a resident doctor and an affair follows. The dark and mature Meredith is heartbroken when it is actually found that the neurosurgeon Derek is married. After a brief separation during which their attempts to be friends fails they get together again. Derek’s needs for commitment and her fear of abandonment again leads to an estrangement but they overcome all of that and finally get together to get married. 5. Ralph and Alice
One of the most adorable couples on television, Ralph Kramden and Alice’s misadventures were entertaining audiences in the sitcom ‘the honeymooners’ in the 50’s. It gave a realistic account of a poor married couple where Ralph is a rough yet likeable bus driver in New York and Alice is the housewife with an acerbic temper. The show follows their fights as Ralph dreams big and tries one hare brained scheme after another to strike rich, and Alice comes to his rescue and hammer sense into him. But at the end of each fight and despite all their financial problems, their love stands strong.
4. Carol and Mike
The show Brady bunch was an American sitcom which ran for 5 seasons from 1969 to 1974, and though the original series was not much of a success, its syndicate made it very popular among children. The story revolves around the marriage of Mike Brady, a widower with three sons and Carol Ann Martin with three daughters in a typical suburban background. The trials and tribulations about the couple trying to keep their family together, while their children attempt to live together and adjust with their different styles of upbringing is what won the hearts of the viewers and showed the love of the couple. One of the oldest serials of which spanned six seasons from 1951 to 1957, it was the most watched show in USA during its time. Lucy and Ricky Ricardo became America’s sweethearts and were the first super couple, with the portrayal of a lovely married couple where Lucy plays a housewife and her husband Ricky works in a band headlining the club Tropicana. The comedic setting shows Lucy getting into trouble and Ricky catching her. The charm of the couple extended beyond the show when the two actors got married in real life as well keeping the attention of viewers on their every move.
2. Ross and Rachel
Who can ever forget this iconic couple whose fate kept audiences glued to their seats in the grand finale of the tenth and final season of one of the most loved and watched sitcoms, FRIENDS. Their characters were vastly opposite in nature with Ross Geller, played by David Schwimmer as a nerdy paleontologist with a PhD from Columbia university and Rachel Greene, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston as a slightly self-centered spoilt fashion conscious yet lovable character. 1. Luke and Laura
The signature couple of one of the most popular medical dramas on TV, Luke Spencer and Laura Webber were certainly not the first super couple but hold the reputation for defining it. They were created at a time General Hospital had fallen in viewership and popularity. The focus had been initially shifted to Laura’s troubled youth and what started as a brief role for Luke became a larger and more permanent role due to the audience’s expectation of a romantic liaison between them. Before they got together, it was shown that Laura is raped by Luke, but their future romance was justified by the remorse and devastation that Luke suffered as well. Their wedding episode, aired in November 16 and 17 of 1981 garnered the highest viewership ratings in daytime television with 30 million viewers!
